Purpose
The purpose of this notice is to advise brokers and importers about upcoming changes to the profile questions that apply to cooked crustaceans. These changes are being made to improve the referral of cooked crustaceans for inspection and analysis.
What has changed?
From 18 January 2017, a new Community Protection (CP) question will be applied to goods lodged under relevant tariff codes for crustaceans. Crustaceans include crab, crayfish, lobster, prawn or shrimp.
The new CP question will replace the four existing CP questions and will be:
IFIS: ARE THE GOODS COOKED CRUSTACEANS THAT REQUIRE REFRIGERATION (CHILLED OR FROZEN) AND DO NOT REQUIRE FURTHER COOKING BEFORE CONSUMPTION (ANSWER ‘NO’ TO THIS QUESTION IF THE GOODS ARE CRUMBED OR BATTERED)?
Answering ‘No’ to this lodgement question will mean that crustaceans will not be referred to the Imported Food Inspection Scheme for inspection and analysis as a risk food.
Cooked crustaceans referred as risk food will be inspected and analysed in accordance with the unchanged requirements on the Tests applied to risk food webpage.
Cooked crustaceans may continue to be analysed for surveillance tests on the tests applied to surveillance foods webpage.
