[EU] Info session on supplementary guidance - GMO = technical meeting with wtakeholders on supplementary guidance for allergenicity assessment of GM plants (2016-10-20)
  • Registration Date 2016-10-24
  • Hit 552

Background

Genetically modified (GM) plants used for food and feed can only be authorised for placing on the market following a scientific assessment of any risk that they may pose to human and animal health. This includes an allergenicity assessment which should be performed according to Regulation (EC) No 503/2013 . To assist applicants and risk assessors in the practical implementation of the necessary requirements and considering new developments in this scientific area, a supplementary guidance on allergenicity assessment for GM plants used as food and feed is currently under development.

In the context of enhancing interactions with stakeholders and communicating EFSA’s work on regulated products, the EFSA Application Desk Unit (APDESK) together with the EFSA Unit on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) organises a technical meeting to allow an exchange of views regarding scientific issues linked to the new EFSA guidance document under public consultation.

Objectives of the meeting

The overall aim of this technical meeting is the scientific discussion of the EFSA guidance document submitted for public consultation. The topics for discussion in the agenda will be confirmed following the closure of the public consultation and will be prepared in collaboration with the Focus Group members.

Potential topics to be discussed include:
•Presentation of the guidance document;
•Feedback from the public consultation;
•Discussion on the proposed approaches.

Structure of the meeting

The technical meeting will last one full day and be organised in a way as to provide for an interactive exchange of views. A detailed draft agenda will be published by the end of October.

Participants will have the opportunity to provide feedback and participate in the various discussions following the scientific presentations. EFSA will summarise the discussions of the event in a short report which will be published on EFSA website along with the presentations.

Who should attend?

The technical meeting is intended for all stakeholders interested in the field of allergenicity assessment (e.g. industry, competent authorities of Member States, academia, public and private research institutes as well as non-governmental organisations and patient’s representatives).

In order to ensure a thorough discussion, participation is limited to a maximum of 90 participants, including speakers and EFSA experts. EFSA reserves the right to limit the number of attendees per company/organisation.
